MUNCIE – Howard L. “Skip” Mendenhall, 89, passed away on Sunday morning, July 31, 2022 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 29, 1932 in Muncie, the son of Horace and Helen Lucille (Donavan) Mendenhall and graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1950. Skip served his country honorably in the US Army. On February 17, 1956 in Muncie, he married Carolyn J. Crouch. Skip retired from the US Postal Service in Muncie after working many years in the registered mail room. Some of Skip’s greatest joys in life besides his wife and daughters were hunting Morel Mushrooms, a legacy he passed down to his family all the way to his great-grandchildren. Surviving are two daughters, Leslie Long (husband, Chris) of Muncie and Andrea Conn (husband, Mike) of Van Buren, IN; four grandchildren, Rebekah Bailey (husband, Camalon), Austin Long (wife, Brooke), Emilee Stotts (husband, Josh) and Gabe Conn (fiancé, Kayla Sparling); four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sherry Munson and Judy Harris; and Al Crouch, who was like a brother to Skip. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 65 years, Carolyn J. Mendenhall on August 16, 2021; and two great-grandsons, Jacob Stotts and Jerrick Stotts.
