Charles Carter Obituary

Charles Carter, 74, longtime Mooresville resident, passed away suddenly July 28, 2022, after doing one of his favorite things – mowing his lawn. His sudden passing is a blessing for Charles, but of course, very difficult for his loving family. Charlie was born September 2, 1947, in St. Charles, Virginia, to the late Green and Thelma Louise (Haynes) Carter. Charles attended St. Charles High School and proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Charlie began working at General Motors in 1969, the same year he married the love of his life, Lucille (Ballard) Carter. He enjoyed a long career with General Motors, retiring in 2000 as the Health & Safety Rep for the Union. He had an incredible work ethic and was a great provider for his family. Following his retirement, he painted for many years. Charlie was a member of Life Pointe Community Church of the Nazarene and a former longtime member of the Mooresville Masonic Lodge #78. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, growing delicious tomatoes, and gardening with Lucy. Charlie was the president of their neighborhood association, Trinity Estates. Above all, he was a great family man – often ending a long visit with the words, “You don’t have to rush off.” Charles' memory will be forever cherished by his loving family and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Earl, Clyde, and Willard Carter, Ella Mae Ely; great grandchild, Ella Mae Newlin. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lucy Carter; daughters, Mary (John) Napier, Sherri (Joe Hunter) Coyle, and Cathy (Jason) Roark; grandchildren, Alex, Luke, and Ben Napier; Steven (Courtney) Newlin and Todd Newlin; Parker (Abby) Roark and Pierce Roark; great grandchildren, Layne and Liam Newlin, Addisyn, Kalynn, Carter, and Iris Newlin. Charlie’s Life Celebration® Visitation will be on Monday, August 1, 2022, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 2, 2022, in the Life Pointe Community Church of the Nazarene, 825 N. Indiana St., Mooresville. Burial will be in the Mooresville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Visit www.CarlisleBranson.com to share a favorite memory or to sign the online guest registry.
