Gerald Freeman Chambers, Sr.

Cumberland, MD – Gerald Freeman Chambers, Sr., 82, of Cumberland, MD, peacefully passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017, surrounded by his family.   Born May 3, 1934, in Barrelville, MD, Mr. Chambers was the son of the late Gerald Francis Chambers and Georgia Maggie (Kellar) Chambers.  He was also preceded in death by two daughters: Angela Chambers, 1997; and Kathleen Chambers, 2004.   Gerald graduated from the Maryland School for the Blind where he later became a Guidance Counselor for nearly 30 years.  Gerald was a private mental health therapist.  During his tenure, he earned his Master’s Degree from Loyola College.  He was a member of the Church of Saint Patrick; the American Group Physio Therapist Association; the Maryland Association for Professional Councilors; the American Association for Instructors for the Blind; and the National Association for Forensic Counseling.    Gerald is survived by his wife of 56 years, M. Therese Chambers; his sons: Gerald F. Chambers, Jr., and wife, Monica; Georg F. Chambers and wife, Rebecca, all of Baltimore, MD; and Christopher P. Chambers and wife, Frances, Carlisle, PA: and his daughter: Norma Jean Lloyd and her husband, Steve, Butler, PA.  He also leaves behind his brother: James Chambers and wife, Melody; his sister: Kathleen E. Sines, all of Mount Savage, MD; as well as ten grandchildren.   A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, Saint Patrick’s Church, on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 11:00 A.M., with Father Greg Chervenak, O.F.M. Cap., as celebrant.   Inurnment will be in Saint Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Mount Savage, MD.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Maryland School for the Blind, 3501 Taylor Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21236.
