Roy Dennis Obituary

Roy Dennis, son of the late Walter and Agnes (Allen) Dennis, was born March 30, 1931, in Wright County, Missouri, and departed this life July 27, 2022, at Cox South Medical Center, Springfield, Missouri. He was 91 years, 3 months, and 28 days of age. Roy attended Morning Sun School through 8th grade and then attended Mountain Grove High School. Roy married Lola May Nielsen on February 3, 1949. Two children were born to this union, Larry Eugene and Marilyn Jane. In 1951, they moved to Tulare, California, where he worked on farms milking and picking grapes and cotton. In 1952, they moved back to Mountain Grove near his parent’s farm. Roy worked for Brown Shoe Company for 19 years while milking for 43 years. He enjoyed his hunting dogs and his fishing pole but, most of all, he loved his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren were the sparkle in his eye. When Roy wasn’t busy in the hayfields or milk barn, he enjoyed building birdhouses, dollhouses, toy corrals, and seasonal yard ornaments. He enjoyed taking care of his orchards and keeping his yard immaculate. In the last year Roy lived at Country Living Assisted Living where he enjoyed visiting with “the old folks” as he would say. Roy loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and it was evident in his life. He was saved and baptized at the age of 34 and became a faithful member and Deacon of Rock Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Besides his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Lola May Dennis, daughter-in-law, Clara Faye Dennis, two sisters, and two brothers. Roy is survived by one son, Larry Dennis of Mountain Grove, Missouri, one daughter, Marilyn Marah and husband, Larry, of Norwood, Missouri, four grandchildren, Lori Hyde and husband, Mike, James Dennis and wife, Pam, Cristy Calhoun and husband, Rick, and Rhonda Adamson, ten great-grandchildren, Preston Jarrett and wife, Brittany, Hali Shaffer and husband, Luke, Jaxen Holman, Rileigh Holman, Tristan Dennis, Payton Dennis, Ryan Calhoun, Caleb Calhoun, Megan Calhoun, Hunter Davidson, and Summer Hoffman, four great-great-grandchildren, Boone Roy Shaffer, Charlotte “Charlie” May Shaffer, Parker Jarrett, Vann Jarrett, as well as many other relatives and friends who will miss him greatly.
