Carol Neely Rutt

Carol Rutt of Branford passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25, 2022 at her home with her family at her side. She was the wife of the late Karl W. Rutt. Carol was born December 10, 1939 in New Haven, a daughter of the late James and Georgia Morgan Neely. She worked for many years as a legal secretary and then as a secretary to an accountant at Ernst & Young before retiring. Carol was a resident of Branford for almost all of her life and was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Branford, where she worked on several committees, sang in the choir and was a Stephen Minister. She also loved going as often as she could to the church conference on beautiful Star Island. In her youth Carol was a member of the US Figure Skating Assn and was also a member of Eastern Star. She and her husband were inseparable, and they loved to travel around the country together site seeing and visiting family and friends. Carol was also an amazing watercolor artist, quilter, and doll maker and for many years you would find her and Karl at one of the local craft fairs selling her hand made stuffed animals and Raggedy Ann dolls. She had a beautiful, kind heart and was never without a warm, friendly smile for anyone she met. She will remain forever in our hearts. She is survived by her daughter Bethany (Luke) Karsmarski of North Branford; her stepsons, Karl W. Rutt, Jr. of Arlington, TX and Kurt W. Rutt of Branford; her sister Jeanette Waters of Amarillo, TX and her brother James Neely of Branford, and seven grandchildren. She is predeceased by her sister, Susan Jackson of Amarillo, TX. Visiting hours are Monday, August 1st in the evening from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford. A funeral service will be held Tuesday August 2nd at 11:00 in the First Congregational Church of Branford. Burial will follow in Branford Center Cemetery.
