Juanita Dee Sheffield, 86, of Platte, SD passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Platte Health Center Avera. Funeral Services are 1:00 PM Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Abundant Rock Church in Platte. A Committal Service will follow at Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday, July 29, 2022. Mount Funeral Home of Platte is assisting with arrangements. Juanita Dee Hamilton was born on April 14, 1936 to William and Leona (Herzer) Hamilton in Garden City, KS. She graduated from Albuquerque High School and on October 14, 1953, was united in marriage to Mariano Juno Marcelli, Jr. in Albuquerque, NM. From this union a daughter, Leonora Kathleen was born. Juanita was widowed unexpectedly in 1957.

On March 12, 1961 Juanita was united in marriage to Donald Richard Sheffield at the United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, SD. From this union eight children were born: Donald Kevin, Terry Richard, Michael Shawn, Keith William, twin boys, Jennifer Lynn and Stephanie Colleen. Donald also adopted Kathy and she took on the Sheffield name. Juanita enjoyed reading, cooking and baking; taking pride in being a housewife and mother to their children. She loved being outdoors working in her flower garden and camping.   

In May of 1974, Juanita accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and her relationship with the Lord was the most important thing in her life followed by family. She was an active member of the Abundant Rock Church in Platte, SD. 

Grateful for having shared in Juanita’s life, her six remaining children: Kevin (Lisa) Sheffield of North Platte, NE, Terry Sheffield of Silver City, NM, Shawn (Sandy) Sheffield of Beresford, SD, Keith Sheffield of Platte, SD; Jennifer Sheffield of Wahpeton, ND and Stephanie (Dennis) Smith of Chopin, LA; a son-in-law, Doyle Guthmiller of Menno, SD ; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Charles (Wanda) Sheffield; five sisters-in-law: Norma Hamilton, Clara McIver, Marliss Sheffield, Linda Sheffield and Laura Sheffield; along with many nieces and nephews. 

Juanita was preceded in death by: her husbands: Mariano Marcelli (1957) and Donald Sheffield (2008); twin infant sons (1971); a daughter, Kathy Guthmiller (2018); a granddaughter, Angel Guthmiller; her parents, William and Leona Hamilton; a sister, Violet Thorbus; a brother, JR Hamilton; parents-in-law, William and Dena Sheffield; and many in-laws.
