<p>Jefferson- John E. Cooper, 76, of Clapper Hollow Road, died Wednesday in the comfort of his home with his family.</p> <p>Born April 19, 1946, in Cobleskill, he was the son of the late Milton, Sr. and Ulva (Clapper) Cooper.</p> <p>John retired from the Mill Services, Inc. in Cobleskill where he worked many years.&nbsp; In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking.</p> <p>Survivors include his wife, Bertha Stannard-Cooper, whom he married June 30, 1991; his three stepchildren: Lloyd (Rosemary) Stannard, Michael (Carol) Stannard and Joyce (Daniel) Merwin; eight grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Cooper, two brothers: Neil Cooper and Richard Cooper and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was predeceased by his brother, Milton &quot;Sonny&quot; Cooper, Jr.</p> <p>A celebration of life will be held at a later date.&nbsp; Burial will be in Lawyersville Cemetery.&nbsp; Memorial contributions may be made to Marathon for a Better Life, PO Box 268, Warnerville, NY 12187.</p> <p>Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.</p>

Jefferson- John E. Cooper, 76, of Clapper Hollow Road, died Wednesday in the comfort of his home with his family.

Born April 19, 1946, in Cobleskill, he was the son of the late Milton, Sr. and Ulva (Clapper) Cooper.

John retired from the Mill Services, Inc. in Cobleskill where he worked many years.  In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Stannard-Cooper, whom he married June 30, 1991; his three stepchildren: Lloyd (Rosemary) Stannard, Michael (Carol) Stannard and Joyce (Daniel) Merwin; eight grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Cooper, two brothers: Neil Cooper and Richard Cooper and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother, Milton "Sonny" Cooper, Jr.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Burial will be in Lawyersville Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Marathon for a Better Life, PO Box 268, Warnerville, NY 12187.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
