Sarah Irene Lewis Johnson Vienna, Virginia Obituary

Sarah Irene Lewis Johnson

Sarah Irene Lewis, 99, passed peacefully on July 26, 2022. She is remembered as wife of 54 years to the late James O’Neal Johnson, Sr.; mother of James, Jr., Cynthia, Stephanie Suzanne, Dan and Matty; mother-in-law of Tim; grandmother of Justin O’Neil; daughter of the late Olin and Viola Turner Lewis and friend of too many to name. Sarah is an original Lander Lily graduate. She was a registered nurse who trained at the MacCloud Infirmary in Florence, South Carolina. Sarah was the published author of Manna Bits; Butter Fly Days; A Time Remembered, her memoir of growing up number ten of twelve on a farm in coastal South Carolina and Pomegranates, a devotional. A prolific poet and substantive writer on an impressive catalogue of biblical topics, she was a renowned Christian teacher to multiple generations of students. She further expressed her emotional depth thru her painting. Her landscape and barn oils were highly coveted along with her bird and animal portraits. Beautiful, talented, and wise with a wicked sense of humor, Sarah was a highly sought-after companion and confidant throughout her life. She was known to have “A Hotline to God” as a prayer warrior. She was always available to pray, console, admonish and love all who sought her counsel. A few final thoughts: Sarah’s daily hot biscuits floated off the plate, she owned and played her harmonica and piano (in case you thought she was above it all, she could whip out a boogie woogie on the piano in a hot second) and always, always gardened in a skirt. Her family and friends are eternally grateful for Sarah’s life. Our gratitude is profound for her son Dan, who empowered and enable her to live in her home until her gentle private passing. Visitation will be held at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, VA on Friday, July 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 30 at 10am at Fairfax Memorial Park.
