Dianne McKay Obituary

Dianne Mary McKay

Dianne Mary McKay born December 23, 1949, (nee Lepine) also known as Bebe, from St. Laurent MB, started her Spirit Journey very suddenly at her home, in the early morning of Monday July 18, 2022. With love in our hearts for the life and the good memories you gave us we say Thank-you, Marsi, Meegwetch to a great mom, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, auntie, friend, cousin, buddy and all around great person.

Bebe will be mourned by her son Alvin (Vicky), grandkids Skye (Chase) and Theodore; twins Jullien and Kashtin; daughter Tammy, along with grandchildren Cody (Kristen), Hailey, Kane & Bentley; Tashina (Joey), Peyten & Benjamin; Rayne (Zach), Weston; Simone, and Christopher. Brothers and sisters Lucille, Leonard, Terry, Floyd, Bobbi (Arlene) and Raymond along with numerous nieces and nephews plus her 95 year old mother-in-law Maude McKay (nee Desjatlais).

Bebe was predeceased in 2009 by her husband of 40 years Jerry (Gerard) McKay – her mom and dad Alice (nee Lavallee) in 1992 and Robert in 2010, both of St. Ambroise; her twin brother Dennis (Pine) in 2020; brothers Clifford in 2006, and Maurice in 2014; Father-in-law Frank Mckay in 2002, sister-in-law Agnes Lavallee (nee McKay) in 1986, brother-in-law George McKay in 1972, and babies Jullien & Kenneth McKay.

The family wishes to acknowledge one of Bebe’s best friends while growing up. Together Sheila Lavallee (originally from St. Ambroise) and Bebe got scraped knees, shared secrets and learned about boys. Another very dear family friend was Norma Menesis (nee Flamand from St. Laurent), who shared many trials and tribulations with the family.

Bebe and Jerry lived in the same way as their ancestors where friends became family and family became friends. This was the case with Fille (Gilberte Allard), Dean Lavallee, Denise Coutu (Kevin) and Deanna Lavallee. Jerry’s brother Russell grew up as part of their family and continued to live with them until they relocated to St. Laurent shortly before his death.

Bebe was born and raised in St. Ambroise where she went to grade school and then high school in St. Laurent. She met the love of her life Jerry when she was fifteen at the dance hall in St. Ambroise. Bebe’s father didn’t like this young man from another community hanging around his daughter and more than once chased him of his property with his shotgun. Not to be deterred, this young couple kept sneaking out windows, down dark paths and around many corners to spend time together. Neither of them won marathons but they did learn how to be fast on their feet. Reluctantly dad eventually backed off and went to visit Jerry’s dad in St. Laurent to give his blessing and start the arrangements for their marriage on April 12, 1969.

Bebe and Jerry started their life in Winnipeg and in both communities. Shortly after the birth of their first child they moved to Calgary Alberta, where they continued to live until just before Jerry’s passing in 2009. Since that time Bebe has lived in St. Laurent. Shortly after her passing Bebe’s body was cleansed with Sage & Cedar, in the same way as her ancestors. In her honor the family will be lighting a 4 day Sacred Fire, in their yard at 899 Veterans Memorial Road, on Tuesday July 26th at 8 am that will burn continuously until Saturday July 30th at 8 am. During that time family and friends are invited to drop in at any time and sit around the fire for a visit, to pay their respect to the family, tell stories or to say their own short prayer.

Prayers for family and friends will be Friday, July 29th, at 7:00 pm at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. A Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Laurent RC Church on Saturday, July 30th at 11:00 am, with viewing starting at 10:00. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews: Cody, Christopher, Kashtin, Jullien, Jason, Brady, Darvin and Kelvin. Lunch will follow after mass at the Rec Center. Bebe’s body will be cremated following the service and interment will take place at another time. Donations to the family may be made to tmckay73@hotmail.com.
