Wesley Payton, Jr.

Wesley Payton, 88, of Micanopy, FL passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022, UF Health Shands Hospital. Mr. Payton was born on February 3, 1934 in Micanopy, FL to Wesley, Sr. and Carrie (Gill) Payton. A lifelong resident of Micanopy, he was a cowboy, and worked at Franklin Crate Mill and Simonton Ranch. Mr. Payton enjoyed catering, paintball, and working the concession at Oak Hall School. He was a member of Mt. Pedro Missionary Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Payon, daughter, Diane Payton Beard, and brother, Johnny Payton. His memory will forever live on in hearts of; his son, Wesley Earnest Payton, Sr. (Mary ) of Micanopy, FL; daughter, Shirley Payton of Micanopy, FL; sisters, Maggie Walker, Gwendolyn Capers, Gloria Ellis (Timothy) and Mildred Brown; brothers-in-law, Talmar Patterson and Robert Lee Patterson (Diane); sisters-in-law, Gloria Buggs (Donnie), Geraldine Miller (Johnny), Daphne Galloway, and Yvonne Patterson; seven grand children; nine great-grand children; other relatives and caring friends. Visitation for Mr. Payton will be Friday, August 5, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Chestnut Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 10:00 at Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 2905 SE 21st Avenue, Gainesville, Fl 32641, Rev. Kevin Thorpe, Pastor, Rev. Nathaniel Hodges, Officiating. Interment will follow immediately in Haynes Memorial Cemetery, Micanopy, FL. Family and friends are asked to meet at 102 North Tangerine Street, Micanopy, FL at 9:00 AM to form the Cortege. Due to COVID-19, all in attendance are asked to please wear a facial covering.
