Willie and Eddie B. Morgan welcomed Edward Morgan into the world on January 4, 1942 in Marks, Mississippi. At a very early age he and his family moved to Kansas City, Missouri. Ed graduated from Manual Vocational School in 1960, where he studied Orthopedic Science and Shoe Repair. After graduation he briefly worked for Steve's Shoes where he enjoyed doing custom fittings and special orders. Ed joined the United States Force in October 1965. He was military policeman stationed in Roswell, New Mexico. He was assigned to guard the Atlas F. Missile Silo that was developed during the height of the Cold War. He spent the duration of his career in Roswell. After being discharged from the Air Force, Ed returned to Kansas City where he met and married Betty Young on April 27, 1971. To that union one child, Carmen Michelle was born. Ed completed his training at the Police Academy and went on to work in the Police Department at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he rose to Captain of the department. He retired after thirty-one years of service. Ed was also a proud God-fearing member of the Masonic Order. He had risen to the height of a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite. Ed loved his family and took pride in being a strong provider and family man. He loved barbecue ribs, Gates Bar-B-Q being his favorite. Ed departed this life on May 22, 2017 at the home. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Edwin; sisters, Rose and Rosalee, as well as uncles, aunts, cousins, and many other family members. He is survived by his wife, Betty; three children, Carmen, Don and Toni; brother, Phillip (Effie); grandchildren, Mareya and Lance; a host of nephews, nieces, numerous family and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 3, 11:00 a.m. at Willis Chapel A.M.E. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
