With broken hearts we announce the passing of Jean Mary Briand on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born September 24, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Frank “Ziggy” and Louise (Edwards) Oursin.

For 57 years, Jean enjoyed playing cards weekly with the “Club Girls”. She also enjoyed spending time with her close friends, Louise and Mary Rose. An amazing dancer, her strong love for dancing and rock and roll brought her to the Ashby Legion where she would dance circles around everyone. Jean was a devoted mom and grandmother and her love for animals was known by all.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Lori Briand, Sydney; sons, Kevin and Kenny Briand, Sydney; grandchildren, Lauryn, Kristen and Dylan Briand; great-granddaughter, Ellie Axworthy; sister, Theresa Tubrett, Sydney; brothers, David and Frank “Bucky” Oursin, Sydney; and the father of her children, Louis Briand.

Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her sister, Anna Cameron and brothers, Roy and Ernie Oursin.

There will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Church on Friday, July 29 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the SPCA Cape Breton.
