Katherine Case Mantz Obituary

Katherine Case Mantz, also known as Kat and Kathy, 88, of Toms River, NJ, passed from this life peacefully at home on Saturday, July 23, 2022 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, a loving sister and aunt and a trusted friend.

Born in Richard City, TN, Katherine was the quintessential Southern lady, with a quick wit and great sense of humor, who loved to laugh. She always had a twinkle in her eye, and a wink for you. She called everyone Sugar – (pronounced Shugah).  Her outfits had to be color-coordinated and fully accessorized. If you told her you liked her necklace, more often than not she would take it off and give it to you. She was also fiercely independent and a fighter who always had a positive attitude and who said she didn’t have time to complain. No matter what she was going through or how badly she felt, she would always say she was “Marvelous!”.

Katherine was happiest when she was surrounded by her family – the more the merrier. One of her favorite things in life was traveling. Until 2020, she didn’t hesitate to get in her trusted red car by herself and drive to visit family and friends in Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island, sometimes all in one year. She also loved visiting her nephew and niece in Nice, France.  She loved gospel music and played it on her road trips. She was a voracious reader, regularly exchanging books with friends and family. In her younger years, she knitted and crocheted beautiful sweaters, scarves and blankets for family and friends.

Katherine moved to Toms River from TN in 1966. She loved her home and her neighbors, always the one to arrange the neighborhood get-togethers and birthday parties.

She was very generous in all ways to those she loved. Anyone who met her quickly came under her spell and was a life-long friend. She will be greatly missed by all of her friends and family and forever in our hearts.

Katherine ended her career as a Vice President at Jersey Shore Savings and Loan in Toms River after more than 20 years in various positions at the bank.

She was a member of Pinelands Reform Church in Toms River.

Katherine was predeceased by her parents Ellis Hardy and Ruth Lawhorn Case and siblings Ellis Daniel Case, Ruby Case Huether and Jack Case.

She is survived by her three proud children and their spouses: her son Daniel Beene and his wife Janet Beene of East Stroudsburg, PA, her daughter Patricia Beene-Colasanti and her husband Anthony Colasanti of West Orange, and her daughter Annette Ratliff and her husband Michael Ratliff of Goldsboro, NC, her sister Ina Ruth Case of Georgetown, KY and her sister-in-law Carolyn Case of South Pittsburg, TN, her grandchildren Susan Leach, Brian Leach, Greg Colasanti, Andrew Colasanti and his wife Kimberly, Joseph Beene and his wife Julie, Jason Beene and his wife Stephanie, Daniel Ratliff, David Ratliff and his wife Candie and Sarai Wilks and her husband John, her great grandchildren Mirabelle, Lyla, Fabiola and Brennan Beene, Bryson Leach, Christopher and Emily Colasanti, Leslie and Jerod Fizer, John and Sky Wilks, Luke, Weston, and Dean Ratliff and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a Memorial Service to celebrate Katherine’s life on Saturday, August 20, 2022 Noon – 2:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River.
