Nancy J. Trevallion Obituary

Nancy Joanne (Axtell) Trevallion passed away suddenly on July 23rd, 2022, at the age of 61 at her home in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. Nancy was born at Wesson Women’s (Baystate) Hospital in Springfield on March 22nd, 1961, to James and Judith (Marshall) Axtell. She was raised on Main Street in Hampden, a town that she loved dearly. Nancy graduated from Minnechaug Regional High School in 1979, where she made several lifelong friends.

For nearly 20 years, Nancy was a teacher at Fiddlestix Nursery School in Wilbraham, where she cared for, taught, and inspired hundreds of children over the years. She spent many Sundays at the Federated Community Church in Hampden teaching Sunday School programs. After Fiddlestix, she led efforts to open a pre-school at the Church of the Epiphany in Wilbraham, where she served as the director and worked tirelessly to achieve accreditation for the center. In the later years of her career, she was an inpatient substance use disorder counselor in the Springfield area. Part of her legacy is left in the profound impact she had on so many people during her life journey. She was like a mother to the countless friends of her children that passed through her home, all of whom she treated as if they were her own.

Nancy loved the ocean, having spent many of her summers with her family in Groton Long Point, Connecticut. She also loved island camping in Lake George, NY which became a cherished summertime tradition. She was well known for her gardening, having displayed some of the most spectacular flower displays in her flower boxes at her Hampden home.

After a skillful setup by her friends, she married Lance Trevallion on August 6th, 1996, in the lilac-filled backyard of her beloved Hampden home. Above everything, she loved her family and took tremendous unwavering pride in her children and grandchildren, all of whom she loved unconditionally.  She also loved her dogs, Lucy being her most recent companion.

The last week of Nancy’s life was spent camping with her family on Lake George. Her death was untimely, but all can take comfort in her final days being spent happy and in the way she would have most wanted.

Nancy leaves behind her loving husband Lance of nearly 28 years; her children Jake (25), of Wilbraham; Christopher (33), of Hampden; Joe (37) and his wife Caitlin (Clark), and their children Elliott (2) and Leland (5) of Windham, Maine; and Erin (42) and her daughter Hannah (19) of Griswold, Connecticut. She also leaves behind her brother Jim of Milford, Connecticut, and his children Ryan (25), Scott (31), Jimmy (32), and Megan (35). Nancy was predeceased by her father who passed away on December 3rd, 1994, and her mother who passed away on March 2nd, 1983.
