Mary “Terry” Therese Tobin joined the stars that she loved on July 25th, 2022. Born September 11th, 1951 in Rockford, IL, Terry was the oldest of nine children born to Jack and Mary (Holloway) Buss. From IL, they moved to CA for a brief time before growing their roots in WA. Growing up she enjoyed drawing, listening to music, and playing softball. She earned her GED from Federal Way High School and started working as a nanny. It was at her nanny gig that she met John Tobin, who happened to be courting the mother of one of her kids. Terry was serious with someone at the time and John and Terry became friends. Soon her relationship with her boyfriend dissolved and John literally knocked on her door and walked into her life. John remembered that Terry was staring at a poster on a nearby wall and said, “Those people are melting into the sun,” and that was it. John fell in love with his little hippie girl then and there. Terry and John were married on April 24, 1971 and celebrated 51 years together this year. John and Terry moved into their house in Newcastle, Washington in 1973. When they bought their home, there were only eight houses in the entire neighborhood. It was a place where Terry could sit outside and watch the stars and grow her flower garden for her birds. During her time in Newcastle, she worked for a stint at the family business, Tri-Tec Manufacturing, but for most of her career she worked for Quinton Instruments assembling electronics. On November 11th, 1973, she and John welcomed John Raymond into their house and 5 1/2 years later, on May 21st, Shanna decided to join the fun. Terry loved being surrounded by family, which over the years, came to include all of their kid’s friends too. Terry also loved watching football, especially her Seahawks! The whole neighborhood knew if they were winning or losing from Terry’s cheering with the team or her yelling at the refs. However, it was with her Quinton colleagues that she found her way back on the softball field in an informal company league and played a mean catcher. Nature was ingrained in Terry and living in the PNW was a good match for her adventures. Road trips to Ocean Shores, Twisp, and Lake Cushman were among her favorites and each place you could find her watching the stars and howling with wind. Terry passed July 25th, just as the sun was rising. She is preceded in death by her mom, Mary, dad, Jack, and brother, John. She leaves behind her husband, John W., daughters, Laura (Jimmy), and Shanna (Tim), and son, John R. (Stacey), granddaughters, Jessica (Sheldon), Hannah and Jordan, grandson, Tobin, great grandchildren, Rilynn, Theodore, Jaxon, and Paxton, as well as her brothers, Mike, Joe (Pam), Jim (Dixie), Don (Joy), Dave (Sharon), and Matt and her sister, Patty, along with many nieces and nephews. Terry will be remembered for her infectious laughter, love of action and bad sci fi movies, her rebel spirit, and big heart. When we look up at the stars, we know she is amongst her people, as we all know she was made of stardust.
