Lucy Braun Obituary

Our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Lucy Braun passed away peacefully at Rest Haven Nursing Home on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at the age of 85 with her children by her side.

Lucy was born May 20, 1937 in Lichtenau, Molotchna, Ukraine. During the war, her mother migrated with Lucy and her two sisters to Poland, Germany, Paraguay and then northward to Blumenort, Canada. She was so grateful for the freedom she experienced in her new country and the kindness shown to her family.

She accepted Jesus into her heart as a young child. She went through many trials in life but she always returned to the hope that Jesus gave her by dying for her sins on the cross. She held onto the promisemthat God would never leave her and someday, He would usher her into eternity with Him.

Lucy met Menno Braun when she was 13 years old while hoeing beets near Blumenort. She knew at first sight that if it was her choice, she would marry him. They were married in 1958 and later moved to Landmark where they owned a dairy farm, Bronson Dairy. Here they taught their children the value of hard work and dedication. Lucy spent many hours cooking in the kitchen, washing barn clothes and cleaning the house. In her free time, she enjoyed eating ice-cream without a bowl, sewing , altering clothing, thrift shopping, and organizing her treasures. She loved singing in harmony and choir practices. She valued cleanliness and often wiped spills and children’s hands.

Lucy’s life was a wonderful example of her love for God, family, friends, and church. She was often found in the kitchen and wiping tables at church events or cleaning up garbage on the farm. She performed tasks that others preferred not to complete.

She was ecstatic when birth announcements were made, and she loved spending time with her growing family. Each child was a gift, and she loved holding babies.

She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her children, grandchilden and great-grandchildren.
