Lewis "Louie" Douglas Shipwash

Lewis “Louie” Douglas Shipwash, 97, of Fayette, died Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette. A memorial graveside service will be held at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette, on Thursday July 28, 2022, at 11:00 AM, with military rites provided by American Legion Post #339 of Fayette. Lewis Douglas, son of C.G. and Della (Bullock) Shipwash was born December 9, 1924, in Lake City, Florida. His family moved to Prescott, Arizona, when he was a young boy. Louie received his education in the Prescott Schools. He served in the United States Navy from 1941 until being honorably discharged in 1947. Louie served in the Pacific Theater during his time in the military. On April 14, 1946, he was united in marriage with Betty “B.J.” Staggs in Prescott, Arizona. Louie worked as a truck driver, mechanic, and construction worker, prior to a career as a business agent for the Teamsters, and was a warehouseman for the Cholla Power Plant in Joseph City, Arizona. He retired from the power plant for a brief time, prior to working as a grader, a job he said he really liked. Louie was able to fix anything, whether it be working on a car or making the family’s camper that they used for many family trips. In 2009, he and his wife, Betty “B.J.” moved to Fayette to be closer to their daughter, Melle. Louie enjoyed living in Fayette and loved spending time at Klock’s Island Park. One thing he also liked to do was have his daughter buy donuts and then he would take them to the staff at Maple Crest Manor; he felt that they had treated his wife so well when she lived there, that he wanted to show his appreciation. Louie is survived by his daughter, Melle Starsen of Fayette; granddaughter; great-granddaughter, Alexis Rose Scholbrock; two step-great-granddaughters, Braelyn and Kasydi Meyer; sister, Linda (Jim) Lewis of St. George, Utah; three nieces, Nancy (Doyle) Miller of Sun City, Arizona, Sandy Oller of Phoenix, Arizona, and Gerry Oller of Escondido, California; and great-nieces and nephews, Michael (Peggy) Oller of Cave Creek, Arizona, Sherri (Glenn) Kerr of Brooksville, Florida, Steve Oller of Carlsbad, California, Brian (Julie) Oller of Castle Rock, Colorado, Dave Oller of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kerri (Jesse) Haines of Sun City, Arizona, Eddie Miller of Sun City, Arizona, Barbara Woods of Phoenix, Arizona, Jeff Staggs (Sue Ellyn) of Tucson, Arizona, Cynthia Kempner (Alan) of Scottsdale, Arizona, Sheri (Berkeley) Bate of Utah, Colleen (Shane) Lunt of Gilbert, Arizona, and Jeannie (Jared) Arnett of Gilbert, Arizona. One of Louie’s great-grand-nephews, Dave Oller, said, “The greatest uncle ever!” He was preceded in death by his mother, Della (Forrest) Shipwash-Cox; father, C.G. Shipwash; wife, Betty Jean “B.J.” on April 25, 2014; and three brothers, Jay Shipwash, William Shipwash, and Griffin (Robena) Shipwash.
