Callie Mae Birdwell Houston, Texas Obituary

Callie Mae Birdwell

Callie Mae Birdwell peacefully went home to her Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, at her home on Friday, July 15th, 2022. She finally re-joined the true love of her life, her late, one and only husband of 70 years, John C. Birdwell. She passed as her 2-year battle with cancer came to an end. Born on January 13, 1932, to W. Claire and Madge Boggan in Vealmoor, Texas, she lived, attended school, and worked in various West Texas towns, including Van Horn and Snyder, before marrying John in 1951. This was just after John entered the U.S. Army. After the Service, they acquired a ranch in Western Oklahoma near the town of Reed and had 4 children, Bill, Jane, Kathy, and Rip. They attended Deer Creek Methodist Church at that time. Moving to Mangum, OK, in 1969, the family became active members of First United Methodist Church. Although being a very busy wife and homemaker, Callie found time to volunteer at the church, assisting in the distribution of Holy Communion and providing delicious food dishes for social functions. A few years after Johns’ passing in 2015, Callie moved to the far Southwest side of Houston to be close to her daughter Jane’s family. Callie is survived by her 4 children and their spouses, Bill Birdwell and wife, Annie, Jane Birdwell Streets and husband Tom, Kathy Neph and husband Bruce, and Rip Birdwell and wife Julianne. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. In addition are her 2 sisters, Norma Wallace and Melba Cannon, and many more loving family and friends. She is proceeded in passing by her husband, John and sister, Jennie Cathey. Also known as “Nana”, Callie’s warm attention, unconditional love, patience, and devotion to our Holy Loving Heavenly Father, to her late husband John, and to her family, is the source of the unity and strength the Birdwell Family has today.
