Sheila Joan Leslie
<p><span style="font-size:16px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Peacefully on Saturday, July 16, 2022, Sheila Leslie passed away at Portage District General Hospital at the age of 79 years.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:16px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Left to mourn Sheila are, beloved husband James (J.T.) Leslie of Poplar Point, children Dwayne (Chris) Leslie of Oakville, Diane (Neal) Van Aert of Portage la Prairie, grandchildren Alex Leslie, Mckenzie, and Jordan Van Aert, sister Rosemary (Al) Davis of Calgary; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:16px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">She was predeceased by her parents Basil and Edythe Bonnett (Preston), stepfather Stan Preston, granddaughter Rebecca Leslie, and sister Sandra Samila.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:16px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Sheila was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on April 17, 1943, the eldest daughter of Basil and Edythe Bonnett, spending her early years on Mayfair farms. She went to school at Portage Collegiate after which she worked at the Campbells Soup plant in Portage. Sheila and Jim married and moved to the farm in Poplar Point, where they raised their children Dwayne and Diane.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:16px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Sheila enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play hockey and was a regular at Terrier games. She also loved travelling, especially cruises with her sister and brother-in-law. At home she was an avid reader and was famous in the family for baking buns.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:16px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">A family interment will take place at Oakville Cemetery. A celebration of Sheila’s life will be held on the farm at Poplar Point on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:16px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the St. Amant Foundation, 440 River Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2M 3Z9 or Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:16px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com</span></span></p>April 17, 1943 - July 16, 202204/17/194307/16/2022
