Larry Mello

Lawrence "Larry" Mello, 72, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022, at his home in Richmond, RI. He was the beloved husband of Martha (Andrade) Mello for 51 years. Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of Mary M. Mello of Pascoag and the late Jesuino C. Mello. An Art Educator in the Coventry Public Schools for 35 years, Larry served as Department Chair of the Unified Arts Department at Coventry High School. Larry was a residential contractor, designer, and builder. After graduation from RIC with a B.S. in Industrial Arts, Larry received his MAE from RISD. Larry’s creative practice extended beyond teaching and building to encompass painting, sculpture, woodworking, music, and writing. Larry continued painting and exhibiting his works of art throughout New England in his retirement. He was a long-time member of Lyme Art Association and the CT Academy of Fine Arts. In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his beloved sons, Leland Mello of N. Kingstown, and Aaron Mello of Manville; his cherished grandchildren, Levi Mello and Austin and Adrianna Mello; his mother Mary M. Mello of Pascoag; siblings David Mello of Pascoag, Diane Bell of Glocester, Theresa Laprise of Pascoag and aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI on July 16, 2022, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. immediately followed by a Catholic prayer service. All other services will be private.
