Glendeen Roemer Obituary

Glendeen Roemer passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on July 8, 2022, at the age of 84. She is survived by her two sons Doyle and Bruce, daughter-in-law Tonya, sisters Janet Mills and Ruby Kubeczka, grandchildren Alicia and her husband Michael, Brett and his wife Shelby, their two sons Case and Colt. She is preceded in death by her husband Nelson, her parents Otto and Esther Heidemann, and brothers Otto Jr. and Louis. Glendeen was born in 1937 in Brenham, the third of five children. She was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in Brenham, Texas. Refusing to spend another season picking cotton, she left home in her teens and set in motion her destiny of meeting and falling in love with the love her life, Nelson. When Nelson was drafted in the Army, they married at St. James Lutheran Church in Brenham, Texas just before he was shipped out and stationed in Korea. His next tour brought them to Kansas for a bit, before they returned to the Houston area where they raised Doyle and Bruce and were members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Glendeen loved gardening and her flowers. She was known for having a green thumb, bringing countless plants back from the brink to flourish in her backyard, and was able to grow anything that could take root. Her love of roses was evident by the care and attention she took each year to ensure their success. It brought her joy to share what she had grown with friends and family when they came to visit. She had a great fondness for dancing and could frequently be found on the dance floor at family gatherings and weddings, especially if a waltz was playing. Glendeen’s love of family was evident to anyone that held a conversation with her. She was quick to share her adoration of her family and recent achievements of her kids and grandkids, big or small. She always had potato chips, croutons, and cold Dr Pepper on hand for when family stopped by. Thanksgiving and Christmas were two of her favorite holidays. She spoiled everyone who came over to eat with her famous giblet gravy, cornbread dressing, pinwheels, and pecan pie. While mostly a homebody, Glendeen could be easily convinced to venture out and experience new places, including lunch dates, winery tastings, day trips to Austin, and on one occasion, an overnight trip to New Orleans, provided she had enough time to put her makeup on and fix her hair first. She was a Hallmark movie connoisseur and adored the Christmas movies most. In her role as Gigi, she had the ability to quickly soothe Case and Colt when they were fussy and lull them to sleep when everyone else had tried. Glendeen will be greatly missed and remembered for her stories, laughter, hugs, and the warm feeling she gave all who met her. Pallbearers are Brett Roemer, Michael Mendoza, Clark Pavlicek, Kirk Pavlicek, Greg Kubeczka, and Todd Heidemann.
