PRESQUE ISLE: James “Jim” M. Nelson 75, passed away unexpectedly on Friday evening July 8, 2022 in Presque Isle. He was born March 18, 1947 in Somerset, KY., the son of Hobert and Mary (Looper) Nelson. He graduated from Somerset High School class of 1965 and then entered the U.S. Air Force serving a tour in Vietnam and serving at Loring AFB, Limestone. While at Loring AFB in 1968 Jim met and fell in love with his soulmate Donna. They married and have spent 53 loving and adventurous years together. After graduating Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Waterville, Jim worked as a police officer in Limestone for four years, and then for the Presque Isle Police Department for 26 years retiring in 2004. He then drove school bus for SAD#1 for ten years. Jim was an active member of the Presque Isle Elks Club for 29 years. He is survived by his wife Donna (Fitzsimmons) Nelson of Presque Isle, a son John and his partner Keith Nelson-Miles of Squa Pan, a daughter Sherry Bradley and her companion Jeff Kenneson of Presque Isle, two grandchildren Kasandra Doody and her husband Ethan of Squa Pan, James Michael Bradley and his wife Lauren of Peru, ME., two great grandchildren Lydia Marie and Madison Lee Bradley, along with the soon arrival of Baby Doody, two special nieces Becky Herzog and Gay Dolezal, special friend Pete Humphrey and his fellow Elks members, his Florida friends; Frank and Marie Emproto, Eric and Lois Gold, Al and Alice Degler, his card player friends, and his faithful dog Willey Nelson. Jim was predeceased by his parents, a sister Katherine Waddle, and a grandson Levi Nelson-Miles. A graveside service with military honors will be held 1PM Monday July 18, 2022 at Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou followed by a celebration of life at the Presque Isle Elks Club Main Street Presque Isle. Donations in his memory may be made to the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery 37 Lombard Rd. Caribou, ME 04736. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bowers Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
