James A. Maher Obituary

James A. “Rabbit” Maher, age 68, of Warwick, a devout Catholic, went on to his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, July 8, 2022, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. Born in Providence, a son of the late Christopher T. Maher, Sr. and Florence V. (Brightman) Maher, he was a life-long Warwick resident. Mr. Maher had raised and raced Greyhound dogs. He held a C.D.L. license for trailor truck driving, was the owner and operator of his own moving truck. He provided services for Arpin Van Lines in West Warwick from 1991 to early 2000. From 2018 to 2020, he was a medical courier for Coastal Medical. For many years, Mr. Maher coached for the Warwick Police Athletic League. He was an avid bowler, and bowled on Thursday nights at Legion Bowl in Cranston. He loved all New England Sports, and his favorite team was the New York Giants. He is survived by three daughters and a son, Lisa A. Andrews and her husband Jesse, of Chepachet, Erin L. Maher, Joseph S. Maher and Kristen C. McGurrin and her husband Joseph, all of Warwick; a sister, Barbara A. Dubois of Warwick; a brother, William M. Maher of Warwick; four grandchildren, Kiera, Owen, Abel, Madelyn, and a new grandson expected in August. He is also survived by one uncle and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. James also left behind many loved and treasured lifelong friends. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. He was the brother of the late Christopher T. Maher, Jr. and Alice M. Bellisle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 15, at 11 a.m. in St. Rita Church, 722 Oakland Beach Avenue, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited to attend, and requested to meet directly at the church.. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, July 14, from 4-8 p.m., in the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick. Burial will be private.
