Mary Elizabeth Sites Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Sites died July 10th 2022, she was 89 years old. She died peacefully in her own bed, her family and her dog at her side. Mary was born to William and Mary Vanek in Astoria, New York on July 12th, 1932. She attended Bucknell University and then Cornell University. A Master's prepared Chemist, Mary's career included working for Dupont in Detroit Michigan and then Grace Chemical in Cambridge Massachusetts. A woman ahead of her time, Mary chose to continue to work well into her 70's. She was convinced that if she never revealed her age to her co- workers at Grace, she could continue to work there for the rest of her life. Mary truly loved her career. She was also a voracious reader of mystery novels, cookbooks and the daily papers. After her retirement, Mary closely followed all sports. She could frequently be heard in heated discussion with her husband Randy regarding the latest players and games. She also loved time with family, cooking shows in Boston, travel and playing Mah Jong at the Atkinson library with her girlfriends. Mary loved to drive and would travel for miles just to shop for fresh food at the best markets in Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. These shops include the Prime Butcher in Windham and Hampstead NH. A customer for over 40 years, when Mary pulled up at their shop they would greet her by opening the door and bringing a cart to her car. Her hairdresser Heather at Style'n Salon in Windham NH also went out of way for Mary in order to ensure her weekly wash and set was a success. Mary also never shied away from the opportunity to go out for lunch with family and friends. She was an active lady who took great interest in the world around her. Mary sadly lost her husband Randolph D. Sites just over a month before her own death. They were married 68 years, she missed him terribly. She is survived by her two sisters, Joan Anderson of Fort Meyers, Fla and Susan Heidtmann of Advance, N.C. Despite the distance, the three sisters have remained very close. Just a phone call away, each sister always knew what the other was up to. Mary is also survived by her three children. Karen N. Sites of Boulder CO, Douglas W. Sites and his spouse Nancy of Milford N.H, Sally Sites and her partner Michael Hagerty of Goffstown N.H. Mary also had three grandchildren, Fred D. Sites and his partner Cassie Brown of Glenbrook, NV, Abigail M. Sites and Amelia R. Sites, both of Milford N.H. Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday July 13 from 3pm to 4pm with a Funeral Service beginning at 4pm. Services will be held at the French and Rising Funeral Home 17 S. Mast Street Goffstown, NH 03045. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in her honor to the Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue at ygrr.org. Mary's faithful companion was a Golden named Mat. He remained at her side until the end, her love for him outweighed her love for flowers.
