Claire E. (Donnelly) Costello Obituary

Mrs. Claire E. (Donnelly) Costello, age 94, died peacefully at her home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Peter J. Costello Sr., with whom she had shared 50 years of marriage. A lifelong resident of Lynn, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Alice L. (Rolland) Donnelly. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar School, class of 1941 and of St. Mary’s Girls High School, class of 1945. Claire was a lifelong, active Communicant of Sacred Heart Parish, West Lynn, where she served as the Parish and CCD Secretary until her retirement in 1992. She also served the Parish as a Religious Education Teacher, Parish Council Member, and was also a member and Past Prefect of the Scared Heart Sodality. After retirement, Claire volunteered as Sacred Heart School’s librarian for many years. She was an avid reader and had been active in West Lynn Little League, where she had served as the Woman’s Auxiliary President. She loved spending time with her family. Claire is survived by four children; Linda Meredith and her husband Craig of North Carolina, Peter J. “Joey” Costello Jr. of Saugus, Robert “Bob” Costello and his wife Barbara of Lynn, and Paul “Gus” Costello and his wife Janet of Reading, four grandchildren; Kristin Meredith Galley and her husband Richard of England, David Costello and his wife Wendy of Lynn, Caitlin Costello of Westfield, and Megan Costello of Boston, as well as five great grandchildren; Duncan and Reagan Galley of England, and Troy, Roman and Logan Costello of Lynn. She was the sister of the late Marion Costello and Mary Crowley. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:30AM from the Solimine Funeral Home 426 Broadway (RTE129), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visitation will be from 9:00AM-10:30AM.
