Mark "Oakie" Ockenfels Obituary

Mark William “Oakie” Ockenfels, 63, of Davenport, died Friday, July 8, 2022 at Genesis East Medical Center In Davenport, Iowa. Mark was born on May 2, 1959 in Cedar Rapids, IA to Maurice and Marceyne (Barker) Ockenfels. He was a Boy Scout and played football, graduating from Regina High School with the Class of 1978. Mark proudly served as a member of the Iowa Army National Guard for 12 years. He was employed in the family business, City Carton Recycling, as the Equipment Maintenance Manager and served on the company’s Board of Directors as one of the owners. Mark truly enjoyed the company’s annual golf outing to raise money for kids with cancer even though he wasn’t a very good golfer. Mark had the most fun when he was riding one of his Harleys, going to Sturgis and participating in various benefit rides. He was a member of A.B.A.T.E., A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education, and HOG, Harley Owners Group. He was a rabid fan of the Green Bay Packers. Mark enjoyed spending time with his sons and their families and was especially proud of his grandchildren. He had a soft spot for animals. Mark was known for his very generous and giving heart. Mark is survived by his children, JR (Jesse) of Ottumwa, Austin (Nikki) of Dubuque, and Madison Seefieldt of Rock Island; grandchildren. Jacey, Justin and James Ockenfels, Aidreana Parr and Bryceson Pfab. He is also survived by his siblings, Marge Maurer, Donna (Fred) Renon, John (Deb), Andy (Kathy), Tim (Lisa), Cindy Ward and Chris (Verlaine) and many nieces and nephews. Mark had a tribe of friends and fellow bikers that he regarded as family. Mark was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Maurice Jr., Gene, Debbie and Gerry, in-laws, Vivian Ockenfels and Dennis Maurer and his beloved pit bull, Kilo. In lieu of flowers and plants, the family has requested that memorials be directed to B.A.C.A. of Iowa, Quad Cities Chapter. B.A.C.A. stands for Bikers Against Child Abuse. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 16th, from 10:00 am to noon at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. The funeral Service will begin at noon at Lensing’s. Mark requested that those attending wear comfortable attire. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City.
