Hilda Rossnagel Obituary

On Thursday, July 7th 2022, Hilda Rossnagel, age 86, of Gladstone finally got her wish to be with her Lord and Saviour.

She was predeceased by her second husband Ervin, first husband Bernhard, a son Gary, one sister, two brothers. Also many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and other family members.

Left to cherish her memory are her remaining eight children Alan (Janet), Debbie, Terena, Gaylene (Jack), Ron, Kendra (Tim), Brent, Brad (Jen), many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Two sisters, seven brothers, and families.

Hilda was born in Laird, Saskatchewan, on December 28th 1935. While very young she moved to Arden, Manitoba, where she spent most of her childhood. She was the eldest of a large family and though she excelled in school, much of her time was spent tending younger siblings, milking cows, and baking. At 16 she left home to work as a nanny for a family in Bagot. After a year she moved back home where she struck up a romance with Ben Buhler at the local church teen group. They married on November 7th 1954 and in the spring of 1955 they answered a newspaper ad to work for Jim Cameron on a farm in Treherne. They remained there for 22 years where they raised nine wonderful children in a strong Christian home. Hilda was a hard-working dedicated wife and mother who sewed beautiful clothing for the family, grew and harvested a large country garden, made friends in the community, and taught all of her children to love the Lord. In 1977 Ben could no longer farm due to allergies. They moved to Winnipeg where Ben succumbed to cancer and died the next year.

Life was hard for Hilda as a widow with five young children still at home, but she handled it the same way she handled every hardship in her life. Leaning on the Lord. And the Lord was faithful.

Hilda met Ervin Rossnagel through friends. They married on November 23rd 1979 and soon moved to his farm in Waldersee. They led a fulfilling life together where she was once again gardening, harvesting food for the family, and making friends in the community. Ervin retired in 2009, so he and Hilda moved to an apartment in Gladstone. Ervin passed away in 2014 and Hilda was once again a widow.

Her growing health issues required full-time care, so she moved to the Third Crossing Manor Care Home in Gladstone in 2018. After almost four years, she greeted Jesus with open arms and walked into her forever home.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday July 19 at 1:00pm  at the Gladstone Christian Fellowship Church in Gladstone Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Union Gospel Mission.

A video recording of this service will be available on Wednedsay July 20, 2022.
