Paula C. Jones Obituary

Paula Consuelo (Garcia) Jones, age 65, suddenly passed away at her home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on June 17, 2022. Although too young, Paula led an extraordinary and impactful life for those lucky enough to have known and loved her. Born in San Pedro, CA, on January 25, 1957, she graduated from San Pedro High school and resided in San Pedro until 1988. She then relocated with her soon-to-be husband, Richard D. Jones, and her only daughter Emily (Waits) Rivera, to Santa Fe, NM, to repair, maintain and care for her ancestral home of over 100 years.

Although Paula was widowed in 1998 at 41 years of age, she was never alone and always surrounded by friends. She was exceedingly proud of and close to her only daughter Emily (Waits) Rivera. In addition, with beaming pride and joy, she told everyone she met about the lives and accomplishments of her grandchildren, Eliana & Max Rivera.

A long-time and well-known employee of Whole Foods Market on Cerrillos Road and previously of Kaune’s Market on Old Santa Fe Trail, she was well-loved by her co-workers and customers alike. Often referred to as the “Cheese Lady“ and the "Big Cheese” because of her experience in the specialty cheese departments. She loved good food and shared her knowledge with all that she encountered.

Paula loved to be active, whether it meant biking, running, or even dancing! She was a long-time fitness instructor, teaching Spinning and Body Pump classes all around Santa Fe at places such as Revolution, Anytime Fitness, Las Campanas, and Quail Run. She was also a former owner of Evolve. Paula was well-loved by her students and fellow fitness teachers.

She was outgoing and adventurous, loved the outdoors, and surrounded herself with nature. She spent many vacations camping in the mountains and fishing the rivers around New Mexico and Colorado. Later she also became enchanted with the beauty and magic of Hawaii and returned many times to her favorite island of Kauai. She was in awe of the majesty of the Napali Coast and fell in love with the sea turtles. Little collectible sea turtles could be found all around her home, and anywhere Paula went. She dreamed of one day traveling back to the island with her grandchildren.

Paula was known for her vibrant, energetic personality, quick and embracing smile, and infectious laugh. She was loved by everyone that met her, and she, in turn, loved the multitudes that she called friends and family with an open and honest heart. She believed in and saw the best in people; in turn, she always gave the best of herself. She will be missed dearly by her family, friends, and co-workers.

Preceded in death by her Parents: Uriol Francisco and Rosina (Muniz) Garcia; Husband: Richard D. Jones; Brother: Julian F. Garcia; Nephew: Edward J. Mayorga

Survived by Daughter: Emily Rivera (Ken); Grandchildren: Eliana and Max Rivera; Sister: Juanita Pina; Brother: Joseph Garcia; Nieces & Nephews: Raquelle Mayorga, Joe Garcia Jr., Nicole Madrid, Rosina Mayorga, and Viviana Cantu.
