New Mexico sadly lost an esteemed community leader and Chicano activist on June 27, 2022. Dr. Jose Armas dedicated his life to community activism and reform. He was a leader in the 1969 landmark case Serna v Portales, the legal precedent for bilingual education programs in place today. Dr. Armas founded De Colores, one of the first Chicano publishing houses in the US. He was an award-winning writer and syndicated columnist. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of friends and family. His work will continue to enrich the lives of minorities for generations to come.

He is survived by his daughters Monica Armas Aragon and Anna Lisa Armas, his grandchildren Miranda, Alexandro, Rey, Mateo and beloved brother Mateo Macias.

He was preceded in death by his wife Linda Morales Armas.

Please join us in honoring Dr. Armas on July 8, 2022 at the Daniels Carlisle Chapel, 3113 Carlisle NE. Visitation starts at 10 a.m., the service will be conducted at noon. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park.
