Victor was the third child born to Jakob and Aganeta (nee Ens) Koslowsky on May 26, 1926 in Hochfeld,
Ukraine. He was predeceased by two brothers in childhood. The family moved to Nikolaifeld where
Victor received his elementary education: the first few grades in German and then in the Russian
language, finishing Grade 7.
In October of 1941, during World War II, the family fled their home heading west into an uncertain
future but God was their guide and protector. Finally, in June, 1948, the family arrived at the John
Schellenberg farm near Lena. On the first Sunday they were invited to John and Margaret Tschetter’s
wedding! What a quick welcome to a new community.
For the next few years Victor worked for various farmers in the area during the summer and in Winnipeg
during the winters. One winter he also attended Bible school. While working in Winnipeg, he was
boarding at Mrs. Bergen’s and that’s where he met Katie. They were married June 21, 1958. Hilda was
born the next year, and David 5 years later.
In 1960, Victor and Katie bought the farm near Smith Hill and began their life-long career in farming,
raising chickens, cattle, and grain crops. They worked as a team. Victor struggled with rheumatoid
arthritis, but he kept on farming and would create a workaround when he couldn’t do it. He didn’t give
up or complain. Victor had a keen sense of humour. Even when illness had robbed him of his voice,
when you saw his face crinkle into a smile, you knew he was telling a funny story.
Victor was a man of integrity. He lived out what he believed, and in his quiet way, set an example of
how a Christian should live. He and Katie read their Bible together every morning and prayed together
every night before retiring to bed.
Victor and Katie moved to town in 1986 when Dave and Rhonda got married. But they didn’t retire from
the farm. Victor just started commuting to work! They did have a bit more time away from the farm,
often hosting friends and family, and frequently went to visit their grandchildren in Alberta. After Victor
turned 90, they moved to Lakeview Gardens and then as their health declined, to Bayside.
Victor is predeceased by his wife Katie in October 2021, and his sister Helen in January 2020.
Victor is survived by his children Hilda (Dave) Hildebrand, David (Rhonda) Koslowsky, grandchildren
Steven (fiancé Kelly Johnston), Katherine (Devon) Opden Dries, Deanna (Ty) Andres, Justin Koslowsky,
Terra (Mark) Bergen, great-grand children Nora Andres, Elliott and Shiloh Opden Dries, and Ellie Bergen.
