Mary Welch Mattison, 84, widow of Jerry T. Mattison a resident of North Bennington died peacefully Sunday July 3, 2022 at Centers for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls, N.Y. surrounded by her family

She was born in Bennington, VT May 24, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Raymond Stratton and Gracia (Stratton) Welch. She received her education in the North Bennington Schools.

She married Jerry T. Mattison on November 12, 1955 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington. Mr. Mattison died March 13, 2015.

In earlier years Mary had been employed at Thompson Manufacturing in Bennington.

Her home and family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her main interest. She was also a big fan of NASCAR.

Survivors include one son and daughter in law, Michael and Cindy Mattison of Hoosick Falls, NY. Two grandchildren, Jennifer DaRosa and Lenny DaRosa and Jessica Eckert (Christopher) of Hoosick Falls, NY. Five great grandchildren, Ethan Mattison, Hunter Hathaway, Elizabeth DaRosa, Aiden Eckert and Gabriel Fisher all of Hoosick Falls, NY. Two sisters, Betty Becker of North Bennington and Dorothy Elwell (Dave) of Shaftsbury. Along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Mrs. Mattison’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral services.

A graveside service will be held at the family lot at Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland, VT.

Mattison may be made to either the American Lung Association or the Shriners in Springfield, MA through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201. The family would like to thank the staff at CNR for the special loving care that they provided to Mary for the last three years.
