Warren Bennett Godkin

Warren Bennett Godkin, 73, a resident of Bennington, Vermont passed away from complications following a head injury, on July 1st, 2022 at the Albany Medical Center surrounded by his family.<br><br>He was born in Schnectady, New York on October 4th, 1948 to the late Hope (Bennett) Godkin VanStone and Warren G.Godkin. He moved to Ohio in his youth, graduating in 1967 from Kenston High School in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. After graduating, Warren joined the Navy where he served from 1967 until 1971. Once he was honorably discharged, Warren returned to his family, who had relocated to Shaftsbury, Vermont.<br><br>Warren was employed at Stanley Tools until their closing, when he went to work at Vermont Composites. He was also employed at the Bennington Museum, Walmart and Bond Auto (now O’Reilly’s Auto Parts). He loved to spend time with his friends and family . He enjoyed reading, specifically thriller, mystery novels and was quite the story teller. When he was younger, he enjoyed fishing, boating and kayaking. He also loved spending time at the family camp on Lake Willoughby.<br><br>Warren married the former Joanne Surdam on July 20th, 1974 in Pittstown, New York. This year would have been their 48th wedding anniversary. Together, they had two children, Warren Travis Godkin and Tyler Bennett Godkin.<br><br>Warren is survived by his wife, Joanne Godkin, of Bennington, VT and his two children; Travis Godkin (Kaitlin Bonner), of Rochester, NY and Tyler Godkin (Savannah)of Albany, OR. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Joseph, Margaret, Adalynn , Belle, and Pheenyx. Warren has one surviving sibling, his sister Susan Blume, of Shaftsbury, VT along with nieces, nephews and cousins.<br><br>He was predeceased by two brothers, Kenneth Godkin and Bruce Godkin. Warren was also predeceased by his step father, James VanStone, step-brother, Larry Scott and a brother in law, John Blume.<br><br>At the family’s request there will be no services at this time.
