Dorothy Ada Myler Obituary

Dorothy Ada Myler

North Sydney

Mum left our world on Saturday, July 2, 2022 to join her daughter Sheree Poulos, who she dearly missed. Mum was 84.

Mum was born on March 14, 1938 in Sylvester, Nova Scotia, to the late John and Nellie (Mooring) Ross. She graduated from both New Glasgow High School and New Glasgow Business College. She took a job with Canadian National Railway in 1959, which brought her to North Sydney. She retired in 1990 from Marine Atlantic.

Mum was an avid knitter, keeping us all in mittens, sweaters and her beautiful baby sets for all the new babies.  Mum loved to skate and dance and was always up for a good game of cards.  Mum loved her family deeply and was very proud of us all, especially her grandchildren whom she adored - Graham, Eleni, Eric, Beth, Mark, Cora Lee, Keary, Leia, Lindsay and Alexandra. She also loved her 9 great- grandchildren.

Mum married Dad, the late Alex Myler in 1965. Together they raised six children:

Brian (Mary) Myler, North Sydney, Brenda (Brian) Henschel, Kelowna B.C., Marilyn (Liam) MacDonald, North Sydney, Sandra (Dave) Thomas North Sydney, Sheree (Peter Poulos) North Sydney, Gearlyn (Percy) Tutty Dartmouth, N.S.  She is further survived by her sisters Joyce MacKnight, New Glasgow, Mary Richardson Ottawa and Helen (Bill Crouse) Truro.

Besides her parents, Mum was predeceased by her husband Alex Myler in 1990, her daughter Sheree Poulos in 2017, and her son-in-law Liam MacDonald 2015. She was also predeceased by her brother Donald Ross; sisters Rose MacDonald, Agnes MacKinnon, and Georgina Neima.

Donations in Mum’s name can be made to any Food Bank, Palliative Care or Charity of your choice.

There will be a visitation for Ada on Wednesday from 1 to 3pm followed immediately by a celebration of life service in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home at 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, with Deacon Dave Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
