A funeral mass for Alquin “Al” Norbert Wander will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Terrence Carter, Jerry dePeridot, Pat Lamatina, Paul Rindal, Alan Simmons, and Tom Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Johnson, Alan Harmer, Nathan Jeane, James Carpenter II, and Whitey Kloeppner. A visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, July 5th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Al was born December 6, 1934, and passed away July 2, 2022, at the age of 87. He was born and raised in Melrose, Minnesota, later leaving to join the military to serve during the Korean War. He then came to settle in Louisiana where he met his future wife, Constance (Finn) Wander and raised a family. Al worked until past retirement age with a local company and also worked other jobs to occupy his spare time. He was one of the beginning members and once served as Fire Chief of the New Llano Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree. Al was a member of St. Michael’s Church and attended faithfully when his health permitted. Al was beloved by friends and family members and will be truly missed. To all his family members near and far, also to the church members and medical personnel who helped with his care and wellbeing, we are truly grateful. Al was preceded in death by his wife, Constance (Finn) Wander; parents, Henry Christian and Mary (Trombomey) Wander; siblings, Hank Jr Wander, Rose Jonas, Virgil Wander, Margaret Scheunemann, Boniface Wander, Loretta Kloeppner, Evelyn Notch, and Marcella Nelson; and son-in-law, Rodney Harmer. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Mary Harmer and Kathleen (James) Carpenter; three grandchildren, Alan Harmer, James (Deandra) Carpenter II, and Candice (Nathan) Jeane; five great-grandchildren, James Carpenter III, Andrew Carpenter, Chelsea Carpenter, Zoe Jeane, and Waylen Jeane; and several loving and caring nieces and nephews from Minnesota, South Dakota, and Colorado areas.
