Marie Shaw

NANCY MARIE COARD SHAW Born September 27, 1928, in Salters, Nancy Marie Coard was the third child and youngest daughter of Henry and Lilly Dozier Coard. On July 3, 2022, God in His infinite wisdom knew that Marie was weary from the toils of this world, and He gently called His daughter to take her to a brand-new home. Known as Marie to all she met, Marie had a heart of love and a willingness to help one and all. She wore many hats. She was daughter, wife, mother, confidante, grandmother, homemaker, farmer, and friend but her most illustrious hat was born again believer. Marie was a consummate cook who shared a meal with any who hungered and even shared a bit of wisdom with all who would listen. Her laughter was infectious, and she loved gospel quartet singing and listening to the radio. Marie met the love of her life Willie Johnson Shaw and they married in 1944. During their marriage they moved to Charleston S.C. and to this union two sons were born, Willie J Shaw Jr. and Henry Shaw. Marie became a widow when her husband, Willie drowned while on his job. After his death she and her two children moved back to her home in Salters where after a time she met William Frazier Sr. They had James Shaw Frazier, Francis Frazier, Levern Shaw, and Joseph Shaw. Marie also has a stepson, William Frazier Jr. Marie’s life was full of the joy and laughter of her children. Her heart had enough love to raise other children as her own, Jerrell Staggers, Zell Staggers Jr., Ernestine Staggers, Dr. Leroy Staggers, and John Whitfield Jr. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a member of Union Baptist Church where she was a long-standing member of the usher board until her illness. Preceding her in death were her husband, Willie Johnson Shaw Sr.; parents, Henry and Lilly Dozier Coard; sons Henry Shaw and Francis Frazier; grandson Ricky Izzard and her sisters, Geneva Coard Staggers and Annie Mae Coard Whitfield. Loved ones to cherish her memory are her children, Willie J (Azalee) Shaw Jr., James (Zenovia) Frazier, Levern Shaw, Joseph (Angelina) Shaw; seven grandchildren, Shawn Davis, Tamika Shaw, Akheem Reshard Frazier, Adriel (Candice) Shaw, Joseph Shaw, and Andrell (Shannon) Shaw; thirteen great-grandchildren, Shabazz Shaw Sr., Kornan Graham, Sharquandra Izzard, Kira Izzard, Jemall Malcolm, Jermaine Malcolm, Alyssa Malcom, Leanna Izzard, Ethan Shaw, Ashton Shaw, Zachary Jones, Ava Shaw and Nia Shaw and four great-great grandchildren, Shabazz Shaw Jr., Laquan Izzard, Charles Wright Jr., Dana Malcolm; adopted sisters, Beatrice Anderson and Julia Stephenson; and many nephews and nieces including a special niece and caregiver, Rev. Sarah Amos; caregivers, her loving son of the home, Levern Shaw, Ella M. Starling, Ethel C. Jackson, Shaneka McCrea, Myrtle Wheeler, Vanessa Hood, and Mary Inez Scott.
