Betty Leonard

Betty Ann Leonard, age 78, of Red Oak, Iowa, died peacefully surrounded by her family on July 2, 2022 at her home after a yearlong battle with cancer. Betty was born November 18, 1943 in Bristol, England to Clyde and Eileen (Holler) Thompson. After WWII, Betty was two years old when she boarded the Queen Elizabeth with her Mum and moved to the United States. The family settled in Southwest Iowa. Betty graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs in 1962 and went on to obtain her RN from Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing in 1965. Betty was united in marriage to Dean Leonard on December 19, 1964 in Logan, Iowa. Betty worked at Jennie Edmundson for a number of years before choosing to stay home and raise her family. Betty was always helping Dean on their acreage, raising baby calves, gardening, and making sure that everyone was taken care of. Later in life, she loved to travel and always felt “at home’ aboard a Princess cruise ship. Betty and Dean traveled most of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, the Caribbean, and many beautiful places in Europe. Preceding her in death were her parents, Clyde and Eileen Thompson, parents-in-law, Clarence and Lovna Leonard, son-in-law, Nick Lamb, and sister-in-law, Sharon Leonard. Survivors include her husband, Dean Leonard of Red Oak, children, Kim Lamb of Red Oak and Cindy Staggs of Sutherland, Nebraska, grandchildren, Amanda Erickson of Omaha, Nebraska, Nakia Lamb of Red Oak, Taylor Staggs of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Samantha Staggs of Omaha, brother-in-law, Skip Leonard of Logan, Iowa, niece, Jill (David) Clark of Blair, Nebraska, nephew, Marc Leonard of Bellevue, Nebraska and numerous other family members and friends. Graveside memorial services will be held 1 PM Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the Greenwood Cemetery at the intersection of Highway 44 and Highway 30 in Harrison County, Iowa, east of Logan. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Montgomery County Animal Rescue or the Great Plains Pointer Recue. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with cremation services
