Mr. John D. McCormick Columbus, Indiana Obituary

Mr. John D. McCormick

John David McCormick died peacefully on a sunny morning at the lake July 2nd, 2022, after an extraordinary life devoted to family, faith, and community. John was born to Joyce (Morton) Repicky and William S. McCormick Jr. on December 16th, 1958, in Akron, Ohio. He graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1977 and from Kent State University in 1982. Family and friends were first for John. He was husband to Amy, father to Katy (David), Megan, and Ben, and step-father to Jacqueline, Sara and Julia; Bubby to Henry, Audrey and Nolan, brother to Mark, Douglas (Allison), Lyn (Scott), and Patty (Jack), uncle to many nieces and nephews, and former husband to Sue. John built and maintained close friendships throughout his life, treating his friends as his family -from his buddies growing up in Silver Lake, Ohio, to his bandmates, Blossom Music Center, and his many fishing and golfing buddies. His entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen allowed him to build Kenny Glass, a great local business. In doing so, he provided a living for many families in Columbus. It sustains and grows today due to the culture and leadership development that are his legacy. John understood that service is the rent we pay for our time on Earth. He improved the Columbus community in many ways with time and treasure, whether it be addressing domestic violence, helping guide Parks and Rec, resurrecting and ensuring the sustainability of Otter Creek Golf Course, or through other philanthropic efforts. More recently, John was involved in fundraising efforts for Nexus Park, our new community space at the repurposed Fair Oaks Mall, a project that brings together his passions for recreation, youth, and community gathering. In Jesuit circles, magis means doing more for the universal good - that’s how John lived his life. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4-7pm on Thursday July 7th at Harrison Lake Country Club in Columbus, Indiana. A Mass will be held at 10am Friday July 8th at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus, Indiana with Father Chris Wadelton officiating. Family & friends may call from 9am until time of service at the church. In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Turning Point Domestic Violence Services of Columbus or the John McCormick Field and Scholarship Fund at Nexus Park through Columbus Park Foundation via Heritage Fund.
