<p>Winifred &ldquo;Winnie&rdquo; Fernandez, 83, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 30, 2022, surrounded by her family and loved ones.</p> <p>She was predeceased by her father Frederick, mother Gwendolyn and sister Laura.</p> <p>Winnie is survived by her husband&nbsp;Pelayo; sons: Pelayo and wife Michelle, Alfredo and wife Karla; daughters: Maria, Luchi and husband Jos&eacute; Luis, Teresa; granddaughters: Marisa, Laura, Cristina, Natalia; grandsons: Rafael, Diego, and Ricardo.</p> <p>Winnie grew up in Lake Forest, IL and Colorado Springs. Winnie went to high school at The Orme School in Arizona and The Colorado Rocky Mountain School, both places where she would develop a love of animals that she would continue for life. She went to college at Radcliffe College, and while studying abroad in Salamanca, Spain, she met her soulmate Pelayo. Winnie and Pelayo were married in 1960 and celebrated their 62nd anniversary in June of this year.</p> <p>Winnie was a dedicated mother to her five children and once they were past their formative years, she went back to school to earn a nursing degree and work as a both a hospital and school nurse in Albuquerque, and a social worker in Miami.&nbsp;Winnie&rsquo;s passion was healing. She was compassionate and nurturing.</p> <p>Winnie will be honored with a celebration of life to be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 11:00 am at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St SW, 87102. All those who love&nbsp;Winnie are invited to join us in celebrating her beautiful life.</p> <p>For those unable to attend in person, Winnie&rsquo;s celebration of life will be livestreamed on Salazar Mortuary&#39;s Facebook page. You do NOT need a Facebook account to view the livestream.
