Saint Albans – Roxana Coppock Pierce , a longtime area resident and educator passed away Thursday, June 30th, 2022, at her home with her friends at her side, and the singing of the birds in her ears. Roxana was born on April 11th,1936, in Johannesburg, California to the late Leona Blanch Thompson. At age 11, after a tumultuous childhood, she came into the guardianship of Beatrice and Howard Coppock, whom she forever called, “ Mom and Dad”. From them, she learned her faith and love of the outdoors. Roxana graduated from George Fox University in 1959, with degrees in Music, English and Education. Roxana had a long career as a teacher, including teaching in California, Tehran, Iran, Hardwick, VT and 38 years as an English Teacher at BFA Saint Albans, VT. After her retirement from full-time teaching in 2005, she worked as a substitute teacher for many years. Fiercely independent, she continued to mow her lawn until 3 weeks ago. Over the years, Roxana has been greeted by former students, and many passers-by have stopped to compliment on the beautiful flower beds at her home. For others, she spent considerable time petting their dogs as they walked by. She spent years devoted to Community Chorus, Cardiac Capers and the Vermont Mozart Festivals. She loved her church family at the First Baptist Church where she served in the choir, bell choir , Board of Christian Education, Vacation Bible School, and in many informal ways. Roxanna leaves behind her daughter; Anne-Marie Pierce, her grandson; Glenn Pierce, some special friends; Rae Catlin, Debbie Riopel and the Simmons family, as well as her beloved church family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Roxana’s memory may be made to; The First Baptist Church, 29 Congress Street, St. Albans, VT 05478, OR Franklin County Animal Shelter, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, VT 05478 OR the Saint Albans Recreation Department, 179 Congress Street, St. Albans VT, 05478. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 7th, 2022, at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of St. Albans, 29 Congress Street, with Pastor William Simmons officiating.
