<section id="obit-text" class="obit-text"> <p>Johanna Bouman Schuitema</p> <p>Nov. 25, 1928 &ndash; Jan. 23, 2022</p> <p>Resident of Alameda, California</p> <p>Johanna, also known as Han and Joan, was born in Zaandam, the Netherlands, on Nov. 25, 1928, and passed away on Jan. 23, 2022, at the age of 93. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1959 and lived in the Bay Area for the remainder of her life.&nbsp; Johanna devoted her life to the well-being of others, working as a nurse for over 30 years in the U.S. and abroad.&nbsp;She will be lovingly remembered for her thoughtfulness, kindness and a life of serving others.</p> <p>Johanna married John Schuitema in 1991. They cherished their life together in Alameda, enjoying time with family and friends, many travel adventures, and countless hours of volunteer work. Johanna was predeceased by John and is survived by her stepchildren, Ankie, Emo, and Sandie; her grandchildren, Christopher (Krista), Andrea (Kaitlin), and Jonathan (Grace); her brother Arend; her sister Ina; and nine nephews and nieces.&nbsp;We are thankful for the love she shared with us and are grateful she is now at peace. Johanna, also known as Han and Joan, was born in Zaandam, the Netherlands, on Nov. 25, 1928, and passed away on Jan. 23, 2022, at the age of 93.
