Kenneth Wayne Covey Obituary

Kenneth Wayne Covey of Midlothian, Texas passed away on June 16, 2022 at the age of 91. Ken’s life began in La Crosse Wisconsin, where he was born to Kenneth and Florence (Hoffman) Covey. He grew up in South East Minnesota in a town called Hokah. After graduating from Houston County High School in 1949 he enlisted in the Navy. Ken served during the Korean War aboard the (CV-42) Franklin D. Roosevelt aircraft carrier and patrol squadrons based in Norfolk, Virginia. He was a Yeoman Second Class and was honorably discharged after four years of service. In 1932, he married Geraldine Tessmer from Caledonia Minnesota who became his wife of over 70 years.

Ken attended Indiana Tech University in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he received a degree in civil engineering. He worked for Beling Engineering in Moline, Illinois and began to raise a family. Ken later joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was stationed in Rock Island Illinois. He became a licensed professional engineer (PE) and served as a Program Manager for the Corps of Engineers for 33 years until he retired in Omaha, Nebraska. After retirement, they moved to Texas to be closer to family.

Ken had many interests in his life that included aviation, music, skiing and going dancing with his wife Gerry. He never met a stranger and had the ability to fix almost anything. He will be deeply missed by his family. He is survived by his wife Geraldine (Gerry), daughter Linda Lyons (Larry) of DeLand, FL and son Brent Covey (Jennifer) of Midlothian, TX. Grandchildren: Austin Lyons (Kaylee); Matthew Covey (Tara); Nicholas Covey (Ashley) and great grandchild, Quinn Covey.
