Richard (Dick) Gray left this earthly world on June 25th to join his Heavenly Father, after a brief
illness.
Born October 17th, 1945, to George & Rose Gray, Dick spent his childhood in Portsmouth, along
with his brothers Tom and Larry. He loved sports and cars. After graduating from St. Thomas
Aquinas, Dick joined the NH Department of Transportation Patrol Shed #610 in Rye and
simultaneously the U.S. Army Reserves.
Dick met his love Patty Paul and married on April 3, 1971. With their daughter, Tina, they made
their home in the seacoast area while Dick continued his careers with the NHDOT ending with his
retirement as Patrol Foreman and SGM in the Army Reserves, a service and title he was most proud
of. Upon retirement, Dick and Pat built their dream log cabin in Wakefield and lived amongst the
serenity, nature and beauty surrounding their home for the last 22 years.
An avid reader, sports lover and camping aficionado, Dick and Pat spent many years ‘on the road’
exploring all their dream spots with cross-country adventures and yearly vacations at their beloved
South Arm in Rangeley, Maine. In the later years, camping in Fremont at the home of his daughter
and son-in-law, Pete, became the new adventure, complete with bonfires, campsite breakfasts and
sunsets with his much-loved grand-dog, Jax.
In recent years, Dick enjoyed the quiet life in Wakefield, reading anything he could get his hands
on related to history and the military, enjoying a well-planned for retirement with Pat.
Dick leaves behind his wife, Patty, of 51 years; his beloved 4-legged daughter of 18 years, Joy,
along with his daughter, Tina LaRoche, and son-in-law, Pete, of Fremont, as well as with sisters-in-
laws Brenda Schure, Judy Newton and her partner Tim Morrill, nieces and nephews Jen Croteau,
Chuck Poirier, Amy Schure and grand nephew and nieces Brent Croteau, Annalise & Lindsey
Poirier. His extended family included granddaughter Danielle Petlick, her husband Michael, and
great granddaughters Zuri & Isla.
Dick was predeceased by his parents George and Rose Gray and brothers Tom and Larry Gray, He
also leaves behind his sister-in-law Kathy and nephews Kelly, Casey and Cody and their spouses
and children.
A future, private service will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Dick’s honor to Wounded Warriors or the
NH SPCA.
