Dorothy (Dottie) May Ignaszewski Obituary

Dottie passed away in her home peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2022, with her children by her side.

Dottie was born in Pittsfield, MA on September 25, 1925.  She was the daughter of Howard and Edith (Fraser) Shand.  She graduated from Burlington High School in 1943.  She worked for Drs. Turk and Levinson for two years before becoming a secretary at Green Mountain Power.  It is there where she met her late husband, Frank Ignaszewski.  They married October 4, 1947, on Frank’s parents 25th Wedding Anniversary.  They were married for 67 ½ years before the passing of her beloved Frank on May 7, 2014. She worked for many years as secretary to the District Manager of General Electric.   After she retired, she and Frank spent 11 fabulous years volunteering for the American Red Cross, traveling throughout Vermont and New Hampshire.  They were both so proud to have served for them and had a ball!  In 1975, she decided to come out of retirement and go back to work as a sales clerk for the Alpine Shop.  She enjoyed creating their window displays and displays around the store, which were done so elaborately, which she had many compliments on.  After Frank passed away, she divided her time between living in their home in Vermont in the summer with her son, Doug Ignaszewski and daughter-in-law, Joann and in North Carolina in the winters with her daughter, Debbie Jones.

In her earlier years, she loved several sports to include volley ball, softball, and was on “The Thursday Nite Owls” bowling league for many years.  She also loved roller skating and rode horses for several years.  While married, she took up hunting and fished with Frank and Doug.  She loved being in the woods rather than being a “hunter’s widow”.

There will be no viewing.  There will be a small service at Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 9 Pleasant Street, Essex Junction, VT  followed by a graveside burial at Fairview Cemetery, Old Colchester Road, Essex Junction, VT.
