Denise Rowe

DURHAM: Donna “Denise” Rowe, 66, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Hock Family Pavilion. She was born in La Grange, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Edward Bruce Grant and Lucille Waters Harrison. Mrs. Rowe was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Denise earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science, and a Master’s Degree in microbiology with a minor in Toxicology, from North Carolina State University. She was a devoted equestrian who was deeply involved in dressage and breeding Hanoverian horses as the founder and CEO of Century Oaks Farm. Her interest and specialties include: riding, breeding, judging competitions, and training horses and riders in dressage. Her accomplishments include: breeding many elite eligible mares and one elite mare, attaining USDF Bronze Level Breeder of Distinction, L level show judge, and winning many trophies and ribbons, including the 2018 BLM (Colonel Bengt Ljungquist Memorial Championship) Training level Test 2 Championship. Denise also taught Equine Anatomy at Averett University. Mrs. Rowe is survived by her husband of over 40 years, Clyde Edward “Eddie” Rowe, Jr.; sister, Faye Grant; sisters-in-laws, Martha Sumler and Claudia Stout; and brother-in-law, David Poff (Joy). A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 1, at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Pastor Charlie McNeill officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Duke Home Care & Hospice at Hock Family Pavilion: Attn: Office of Development, 4321Medical Park Dr., Suite 101, Durham, NC 27704.
