Carol L. Grainger Obituary

PITTSFIELD – Carol L. Grainger, 80, of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her daughters on Saturday, June 25, 2022 following a lengthy battle with dementia.

Carol was born on November 19, 1941 in Arlington, MA, daughter of the late Frank S. and Dorothy E. (Morrill) Breen.

Carol was a woman of many talents, a selfless person who was always willing to help. She was a graduate of UNH where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and met her future husband. After graduation, she worked as a hotel manager for the Carpenter Hotel in Manchester taking with her many stories she loved to share. She spent some time as a stay-at-home mom to her four daughters and later went back to school at Notre Dame for her teaching certificate. She worked for over 30 years at the Pittsfield Elementary school first as a Tutor and later as a First Grade Teacher where she helped mold little minds. She also enjoyed her time as a Children's librarian at the Josiah Carpenter Library.

Carol enjoyed being social, doing yoga, going on walks, traveling with her husband and later her daughters. She took pride in being a caretaker for some of her friends that couldn’t drive or needed a little assistance. Her quiet time would be spent reading, gardening, completing crossword puzzles with ease (and a pen) and she was very involved with the Our Lady of Lourdes Church family in Pittsfield. Carol participated and belonged to many Community organizations.  She was a Brownie leader, member of Pittsfield Circle of Home & Family, Budget Committee, PCDC, Library Trustee, PES PTO and Booster Club.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Dean R. Grainger in 2010 and her twin brothers, Stephen Breen and William Breen.

She is survived by her four daughters, Andrea Riel and her husband Mark of Pittsfield, Michele Karwocki and her husband Peter of Penacook, Lisa Fries and her husband Andrew of Epsom and Robin Blais and her husband Fredrick of Swanzey, sisters-in-law, Dianne Breen of Tacoma, WA and Judy Breen of Manchester, seven grandchildren, Nicole Semales and her husband Nick, Nicholas Karwocki and his wife Danielle, Jennifer Karwocki, Nathan Fries, Lucas Fries, Kyle Blais and his fiancé Kelsey LaQuerre and Kali Blais and her significant other Peter Spanos, five great grandchildren, nephews, William Breen and his wife Melanie, Jay Breen and his wife Karen, Jason Breen and his wife Shelly, Brian Breen and his wife Lindsey and niece Kelsi and fiancé Adam Ransavage.
