Sara Frances Copeland Longshore Obituary

Sara Frances Copeland Longshore, 89, of Newberry died Thursday, June 23, 2022 at her home, following a brief encounter with cancer. Born on September 21, 1932 in Clinton, she was a daughter of the late James M. and Willie Mae Ferguson Copeland. Sara found joy in many ways in her life. She was a dedicated employee of Newberry County Memorial Hospital for over 20 years, where she worked in the business office. Away from work, she enjoyed gardening and canning, trips to spend time at her camper in the mountains, and riding around on the Kabota checking on the cows. Sara was a caregiver and spent many years providing special care to her children Roxanne and Donald. Late in life, she became her husband Donald’s “eyes and ears” and they spent much time together making memories. Sara was a person of faith and was a longtime member of New Chapel United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Donald Livingston Longshore; children, Thomas Mike Longshore (Theresa) and Julie Longshore Lake (Joe); grandchildren, Jessica (Bryon) Jeffcoat, J. D. Lake (Chelsea), Brandon Longshore (Stacey), Kali Setzler (Garrett), Ashton Longshore (Mary); 14 great-grandchildren; brother-in-laws, Edwin Alexander and Joel Cox; sister-in-law Gloria Copeland; numerous nieces and nephews; and a lifelong special friend, Annette Cagle. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Roxanne Longshore; son, Donald Longshore, Jr.; her sisters, Mae Copeland Alexander, Lena Copeland Cox, and Joy Copeland; and her brothers, James M. “Buddy” Copeland, Jr. and John Richard Copeland. Funeral services will be held by the Pastor Doug Benton and the Rev. Bruce Palmer at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at New Chapel United Methodist Church, 133 New Chapel Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108. Interment will be in the church cemetery with visitation following in the church social hall. Pallbearers will be Brandon Longshore, Ashton Longshore, J.D. Lake, Bryon Jeffcoat, and Garrett Setzler. Honorary Pallbearers will be the nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to New Chapel United Methodist Church. The family wishes to express thanks to Prisma Health Hospice, Newberry office, for the care and concern they received. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family here on her Tribute Wall. Whitaker Funeral Home is honored to assist the Longshore family.
