Marguerite was born in Bruxelles on October 6, 1929 to Jean Louis and Alice Hacault and grew up in an energetic and creative family of 12. In 1950, she married Mike De Roo of Swan Lake, and together they farmed and raised a family of nine. Life on the farm was busy and fulfilling; from gardening and canning to the running of a successful dairy and grain farm. Though it was a great deal of work, it was also lots of fun. Her children learned many skills from her, including gardening, baking, sewing, crafting and so much more. Throughout her busy farm life, she made the time to give her children many extras. Marguerite always encouraged her children to learn and grow by doing.

Marguerite's indomitable spirit was sorely tested by the untimely passing in 1977 of her beloved husband Mike and young son, Raymond. Marguerite remained on the farm for a number of years raising the youngest children. During this time, Marguerite began a working career outside of the farm. She became an educational assistant in St. Alphonse and Swan Lake schools and loved her work with children's speech development.

When it came time to leave her farm home, Marguerite moved to Swan Lake where she made a new life for herself, making good friends in town, becoming involved in volunteer work at the recycling depot and delivering Meals on Wheels.

Mom was very involved with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, instilling in them hands-on creativity and an appreciation for nature that was such a large part of her own life. Throughout many Mother’s Days, birthday celebrations, Christmas gatherings and summer family camping trips, wonderful memories were created with Grandma.

Mom gave to her large and ever-growing family unwavering love and we all miss her very much.

The family is grateful to the Foyer Notre Dame for the excellent care Mom received in her last years. We were immeasurably comforted by the compassion and care given to her by the staff of this special community home.
