Dorothy Mae (Seymour) Willems, 99, of De Pere, WI passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022. She was born on August 5, 1922 to the late Edward and Laura (Knuth) Seymour. Dorothy graduated from Nicolet High School in 1940 and became a Registered Nurse (RN) in 1942 upon graduating from Green Bay’s St. Mary’s School of Nursing. On November 15, 1943, at Old Saint Joseph's Church in De Pere, she married Quentin F. Willems, son of the late Frank and Nora (Van Gemert) Willems of De Pere. Dorothy was the proud and loving mother of their six children, spouses, and families. She was preceded in death by Quentin, her beloved husband of 70 years, their son Edward, and Jack Shomion. She is survived by daughter-in-law Patricia Willems-Shomion, and daughters Beth (Peter) Lilly, Mary (Greg) Van Grinsven, Anne (William) Daley, Lynne (Daryl) Sobczak, and Gretchen (Jarett) Luther. She is further survived by 15 grandchildren: Brian (Jasna) Willems, David (Sabrina) Willems, Jes (Adam) Willems-Schnieders, Julie Lilly, Brian Lilly, Ricky Lilly, Marc (Adita) Van Grinsven, Matt Van Grinsven, Patrick (Kimberly) Daley, Katherine (Brian) Daley-Krauss, Ben (Chelsea) Sobczak, Amber (Will) Sobczak-Viitanen, Joshua Luther, Andrea Luther, and Erica Luther. Their families include 14 great-grandchildren with the 15th due in August and one great-great grandchild. Dorothy was an only child, but a sister-in-law to 24 family members as Quentin was one of 13 children. His siblings and their spouses, all of whom have preceded her in death, include: Arnold (Edith) Willems, Lawrence (Margaret) Willems, Norbert (Elvira) Willems, Louis (Frances) Willems, Mark (Blanche) Willems, Gilbert (Magdalene) Willems, Gerald (Beatrice) Willems, Carroll (Marie) Willems, Rose (William) Marcey, Marie (Roy) Radosevich, Rita (Sherman) Goddard, and Janet (William) Benzine. Dorothy worked as an RN during WWII in Detroit, Chicago, and Green Bay. She continued to assist others as an active volunteer in numerous areas throughout her life, including as an American Red Cross Volunteer Nurse. She was an Emeritus Member of Oneida Golf & Country Club. Dorothy was a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Church, De Pere for 70 years and St. Anne Catholic Church, Boulder Junction, WI for 28 years. She belonged to the Association of the Miraculous Medal and the St. Francis Altar Rosary Society. She devoutly said the rosary daily for over 55 years and enjoyed handcrafting rosaries that she donated or gifted to others. She enjoyed playing cards/games, knitting/crocheting/sewing, downhill skiing, golfing, fishing, hunting, boating, viewing wildlife/nature, music, and traveling. She had a thoughtful and giving nature and would frequently visit friends and relatives to share a smile, sweet treat, and conversation. But most of all she treasured spending time with her beloved family. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29th at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan Street, De Pere, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mike Ingold and Rev. Joseph Pasala concelebrating.
