Janet Ann Kennedy Obituary

Janet Ann Kennedy of Carberry passed away on June 16, 2022 at the Carberry Plains Health Center at the age of 66 years.

Janet was born in Camrose, Alberta, to parents William (Bill) and Jean (nee Townsend) Kennedy. She would be the youngest member of Bill and Jean’s blended family, little sister to Norman, Gary, Lory & Jane.

Janet grew up and attended school in Camrose. She and her partner, Eldon Schmitz, moved to the Carberry area in the late 1980s and commuted to Brandon for work. Their home was the perfect setting for their pets and enjoying nature. After their marriage dissolved, Janet opted to stay on the acreage and enjoy rural living. She passionately loved her home.

Janet worked in Brandon for several years as a baker for IGA.  After completing the training requirements to become an Educational Assistant, Janet found employment with Beautiful Plains School Division, working at R J Waugh School in Carberry.  She continued to work in this role until recent health issues required her to be away from her job.

Janet was nature lover, with a particular affinity for birds. She meticulously monitored the wildlife that appeared in her yard – tracking species, date of arrivals, and bird counts.  She was curious and fascinated by all natural things, including insects, plants and animals. She enthusiastically shared her knowledge and interest with friends, family and many students.

Dogs were a big part of Janet’s life. She had several canine friends over the years, but certainly her breed of choice was the Bernese mountain dog. Janet volunteered her time to support dog training classes, Crocus Kennel Club events and was happy to offer advice on “dog issues” when asked. Janet was also a past member of the Westman Wilderness Club and she supported local Legion activities.

Janet was a very strong, independent woman with a quick wit and sense of humor. She will be remembered as an individual who had firm values which she truly lived by.

Janet was predeceased by her parents William and Jean Kennedy and her brother Gary.

If friends so desire, donations in memory of Janet may be made to a charity of choice, with consideration given to her personal interests, namely wildlife and dogs.
