Barbara R. Risik Obituary

Barbara Remee Risik - Barbara “Barb” Risik, 79, of South Burlington, Vermont passed away on June 14, 2022, after a period of declining health. A deeply religious person, one can take comfort in knowing she is now in the hands of the Lord.

Barb was born to Wehbe “Bob” Risik and Freida George Risik in Burlington, VT on May 6, 1943.  Ever proud of her Lebanese heritage, she loved introducing her friends to its culture, language and classic Lebanese foods including Kibbeh, spinach turnovers and stuffed grape leaves. Several years ago, she had the opportunity to visit Lebanon with her father, a trip she forever cherished.

Barb graduated from Rice Memorial High School and was a retiree from IBM after enjoying an accomplished career in Personnel.

Throughout her life, Barb was equally passionate about playing and watching sports and was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Brooklyn/L.A. Dodgers.  In high school, Barb played defense on the Rice women’s basketball team and on weekends could be seen driving off to Boston or New York to catch a baseball game. Later in life, her interests shifted to the WNBA and LPGA, and fervently traveled to their games and events with her friends.

Barb enjoyed the luxury of travel throughout the years and had wonderful memories of Europe, the Middle East, and numerous road trips to many landmarks throughout the United States. It was well known that these drives entailed frequent stops at casinos along the way. Win or lose she always had a good time and had even just returned from a visit to the casino in Saratoga, New York the weekend before she passed.

One’s impression of Barb always included her unique sense of humor and uncanny ability to strike a bargain - how she relished the challenge of negotiating and often ended up on top. Barb will forever be remembered by her wit, unwavering support and generosity to those she cared about.

Barb's faith was the foundation of her life and she attended mass regularly. Barb volunteered for the past several years on Thanksgiving and Christmas by helping to serve meals to the needy.

She was predeceased by her parents, her stepmother Rose Risik, and her nephew Michael Risik.  She is survived by her brother Dan Risik, her niece Laurie Argott and her husband Graham, and their son Connor. As well as her cousins Emile (Bunny) and Vicky. In addition, she leaves Linda Beasimer, a dear friend and travel companion for many years, the family of her late friend, Sharron Angolano, who embraced her as part of their own family, as well as many other very close friends.

A small service will be held for family and close friends in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
